Looking back to move forward
There are moments in the life of a studio when it becomes necessary to pause. As Finkernagel Ross has evolved – in scale, scope, and ambition – we felt compelled to re-align how we present ourselves. What began as a strategic exercise has become something more searching: a reflection on more than twenty years of work. We’ve found that branding, when taken seriously, is distillation. It demands uncomfortable questions. What defines us? What has remained constant despite shifting clients, contexts, and technologies?
A continuous process
Our work has always been guided by a simple conviction: buildings must make sense structurally, environmentally, experientially. Over time we have come to articulate this more precisely by weaving Architecture and Interior Design into one continuous process — from first sketch to final styling.
Looking back over two decades, what emerges is not a singular visual language but a consistent pursuit of experiential quality — spaces shaped as much by how they feel as by how they look. There’s a respect for craftsmanship and material honesty — the grain of timber, the integrity of stone, the tactility of plaster. We value spaces that age well, that deepen rather than fade.
Another thread runs quietly through our work: the belief that detail is never incidental.
The precision of a junction.
The weight of a door.
The way natural light rests on a limewashed wall.
These are not peripheral and left to chance; they are the quiet carriers of quality. Our projects – whether residential or hospitality – are bound together less by a recognisable style and more by a consistency of rigour. Small decisions accumulate; they layer to create atmosphere.
What’s to comeHow do we continue to foster
craftsmanship in an increasingly digital industry?
How do we create spaces that support connection
and wellbeing in a world that feels ever faster?
How do we design with greater environmental responsibility — ensuring longevity is not only aesthetic, but ecological?
Refining our brand has clarified something important: the next chapter for our studio is not about becoming something new. Our future is about expressing with greater conviction what has always defined our work. Becoming more ourselves.
