We’ve been working with Vapiano, the easy-going Italian restaurant chain, in different cities, different countries and even different continents. It all began in 2014 when we completed our first Vapiano restaurant in the middle of London’s Soho. Soon we were working with them on a new restaurant in Brisbane, Australia. Then we were back in the UK, working in Manchester’s Corn Exchange. Since then we’ve worked with them in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Berlin, and again in London.

So our working relationship has moved on since that early London project, but it’s also changed. In those early days we were executive architects and project managers. Now, it’s difficult to pin down our role. They bring us on board to help identify locations and assess their feasibility. We provide a full cost consultancy from inception to completion. We take the load off their shoulders by managing a diverse set of direct contracts and suppliers. And we’re helping them develop new design standards and improve work flows, both in customer areas and back-of-house.

How have we established such a longstanding, global and evolving working relationship with them? We share their overarching vision and we’re crucial to the success of their projects. We understand their business – and their brand – intimately. We’re there at the very start, from the first glimmer of a possibility. And we’re there on opening day to get everything just right, climbing up ladders and under tables and doing whatever needs to be done. They see us as part of their business.

“Felix and his team at Finkernagel Ross have incorporated inspiration, creativity and practicality into their design and management of several very successful projects for Vapiano UK.”
